At first glance this might look like an expensive product for what it appears to be, but once you’ve developed the knack of using it correctly, it’s a massive time saver. I see a lot of reviews where people seem to be trying to use it like a colander, and that’s not the ideal way to get best value from this bowl. – Don’t use the straining holes like a sieve – make sure you swirl your water and then pour that off while keeping the rice at the bottom of the bowl (like panning for gold) – that way you avoid (or minimise) grains getting lodged in the holes. – Remember that you are going to put your washed rice in water in order to cook it, so draining the water out of the bowl and scraping the wet grains into your cooking vessel is a chore, whereas pouring your rice/water mixture sideways directly into your cooking vessel is very simple and (if done correctly) leaves nothing in the bowl. I use this at least 4 times a week for cleaning brown rice before putting it into a rice cooker, and I get excellent fluffy, separated rice every time.
